To meet the increasing demand for reliable, low cost linear encoding, Renishaw works closely with our associate company RLS d.o.o., to produce a range of robust magnetic linear encoders and magnetic ring encoder systems for precision position feedback (for rotary applications, we also offer a range of magnetic rotary encoders).
Both systems are designed for use in harsh environments, such as woodworking, stone-cutting, sawing, metalworking, textiles, packaging, plastics processing, automation and assembly systems, laser/flame/water-jet cutting, and electronic chip/board production.
For linear encoding, a differential magnetoresistive sensor detects the magnetic signature of the magnetised scale, producing a sine and cosine signal as it moves along the scale. These analogue signals can then be interpolated internally to produce a range of resolutions to 1 um.
The same principle of operation can also be used for rotative measurements, be it full revolution or partial arc.For measurements requiring a full revolution special magnetic rings are used, whilst for partial arc measurements with a diameter of more than 60 mm the same magnetic scale as for linear measurements can be used.
